In keeping with the recommendations of the Canadian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, we suggest booking your child’s first appointment at the time of their first birthday, or when their first tooth appears – whichever comes first.
Thereafter, we recommend booking an appointment for cleanings and check-ups every 6 months. Children’s mouths change quickly as they grow, and new habits (from thumb-sucking to new food choices) can put them at risk for quick-developing dental issues.
At each visit to our dental office, we’ll provide routine oral examinations and will perform thorough cleanings. We may apply fluoride treatments to help strengthen and protect tooth enamel. During our examinations, we also track jaw development to ensure healthy growth in your child. Occasionally, we’ll apply sealants to protect molars, or conduct dental radiographs to identify cavities.
Regular dental cleanings and check-ups are an important part of good oral health. Between appointments, parents should ensure their children are adhering to an oral hygiene routine involving regular brushing and flossing to help prevent cavities.
